Fishers and Farmers Busy at Work

Updated: Jun 5, 2022

"Going to Sea" is an original oil painting of the lobster boats heading out for the first day of the season.

"Farm and Sea" is a painting of the bales in the rolling farm lands on our Island. We are so grateful for the fishers and farmers who work very hard on the water and on the land. At this time it is good to remember where our food comes from and the people that produce it.

The winner of the Mother's Day Draw was Alison Colussi. Congratulations!! Thank you to everyone of my newsletter subscribers for your support. It is most appreciated.

In the Studio I was fortunate this past week to take an art class from Maurice Bernard. He has been painting and making a living at his art his entire life. He is a very kind caring soul and always willing to help other artists - old and young. I am also starting to get my paintings, prints, notecards and bookmarks ready to go into the gift shops on the Island. I recently delivered five paintings to The Dunes in Brackley, PEI. If you are down that way, drop in and have a look.

Tips for the Artist in You

I learned some great techniques from my class with Maurice Bernard this past week. One in particular is balance and drawing the composition. If the composition is not correct, your painting will not turn out the way it should. Sketch your painting out and make changes on paper first before you start to paint.

Start by sectioning your paper off. Measure and find the center of your paper and position the elements of your picture from there. However, in landscapes, you never want to have your horizon right on the center line.

Put areas on your drawing in groups of triangles. I have taken a photo of one of my prints and a sketch of the triangles to give a clearer picture.

Happy Painting!!

Most Recent Work

Here is one of the fall paintings that I started some time ago and recently went back to complete. I am much happier with it now. It is 11x14 on stretched canvas. The fall colors on PEI are truly amazing.
