Happy Thanksgiving - October 10, 2020

This is a painting is of one of the many pastoral scenes on Prince Edward Island.  Farm and Sea is a 11x14 oil on stretched canvas

Happy Thanksgiving to All I would like to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving and hope that you are able to spend some time with family even if it has to be in small gatherings. This painting reminds me of how fortunate I am living where I live on Prince Edward Island.  It has been trying times for everyone around the world, but we are so fortunate to live where we do.   Please feel free to share this email to anyone you think might be interested in receiving it. If you wish to opt-out at any time, you can do so at the bottom of this email.

Back in the Studio Fall is upon us with cold weather starting and the beautiful leaves changing their colors.  It is good to get back into a routine.  I had found September very busy and did not spend time in my studio painting like I planned. We tend to make ourselves too busy and sometimes that is our own fault. I have been spending more time in the office and less time in my studio creating. What I would really like to do is more painting and more classes. That is what I enjoy. I enjoy helping people feel good about themselves for creating something that is individual and their own. It is fulfilling to see them realize ‘I can do it’. It gives them a sense of accomplishment.⁣ ⁣To get more time to do what I want, I have to make it a priority. And that is just what I did, I moved my creating to the top of my to do list. What is your priority?

Tips for the Artist in You... Take notice of my painting above "Farm and Sea". Things farther away are lighter in value. Next time you go outside for a walk or to paint, take a minute to notice that what is far off in the distance is much lighter than what is in the middle ground or foreground.

A friend of mine is a farmer and he also likes to take photos. This is how my painting turned out.  It is of the Confederation Bridge and bales in the field. I have this one framed in a floating frame. Oil on stretched canvas - 12 x 12.

If you have a favorite photo and would like to send it to me for a reference for a future painting, by all means let me know.
