Lots of Lupins for Us to See

St. Martin's, PEI To keep in the theme of Lupins, I completed of lupins at St. Martin's Church, Cumberland, PEI. Lupins are so beautiful this time of year with their pinks, purples and the occasional whites. I have seen some photos of yellow lupins. I didn't know that they existed. Do you have any lupin photos that you would like to share?

In the Studio My vacation to see my sister in Ottawa was great. We went to Mont-Tremblant for two nights, lots of uphill walks. Then to Ottawa, a beautiful city. I visited the exhibition on the Ice Age at the museum (extremely interesting) and had a tour of beautiful Ottawa on a double decker bus with an entertaining tourist guide (highly recommend it). And a peaceful walk on one of the numerous hiking trails. So no time in the studio, but I did get a chance to practice watercolor painting (see below). This is the time of year that I like being outside getting my flowerbeds ready and setting up the camper at Twin Shores campground. So you may not see any new paintings from me for a bit. Will see.

Tips for the Artist in You

Here are a few tips from another artist that I follow, Elisabeth Larson Koehler. I thought you might find them helpful.

- Things farther away are lighter in value

- The foreground tends to be warmer in temperature and the background cooler

- In general, keep sharper edges towards the front and softer edges in the distance

- Make use of mixing complementary colors together (mute your colors)

- Look at and study a lot of other landscape paintings.

If you have any questions about these hints and would like me to send you more information explaining them, please send me an email and I would be more than happy to help juneellisartist@gmail.com
